Are there monthly charges? -
No, since this unit is not updated wirelessly there are no monthly charges, campaign updates and records are managed via your computer, our software and a USB cable. *Optional GPRS data connection does have monthly charges through your cellular carrier. -
This version looks like a cell phone? -
Can I use it witha wireless data connection? -
Yes , although not required, you can add a SIM card and we can remotely setup your PortaBlue Mini to communicate using GPRS through your wireless provider. *This option does require you to send the sim card to us before shipping your unit for configuration of the unit to use your sim card. -
Can I use it as a cell phone? - Unfortunately no, this is no longer a cell phone, the cell phone and other operations have been removed for us to utilize all available overhead as a dedicated broadcasting point.
-
What is "tamper free"? - All of our PortaBlue devices are tamper free meaning that there is only an on and off switch and no other user settings or controls. This was implemented to allow the units to be deployed to delivery drivers , street teams etc. without having to worry about the operator making errors or making changes to the intended broadcast campaign. All settings and changes are performed remotely via the web based control panel on one of our servers.
-
What is a fixed broadcast point? - A fixed broadcast point is when you permanently or semi-permanently install a PortaBlue Broadcaster using an always on power source. In this fashion the PortaBlue unit will act like a BlueCastBox except it does not require an ethernet cable for connecting it to the internet. The PortaBlue units will connect to the internet using the built in cellular modem. *Optional GPRS service from your cellular provider is required for wireless fixed broadcasting.
-
Can I keep it charging all of the time? -
Why is the operating system locked? -
We lock the operating system for two reasons, the first being that we cannot insure our broadcaster will continue to function as expected with 100% reliability if we allow access to the operating system. The second reason is to prevent end users who most likely will not be the actual owner of the product from manipulating the operating system or creating issues that result in failure. -
Does the Radar actually work? - The radar shows all discovered devices within range, bright dots have a strong signal, dim dots have a weak signal, blinking dots are transmitting data. The dots are placed on the radar in a random pattern not by their proximity to the broadcast point.
